Mineral of the Week: Platinum

When hearing the word Platinum, many of us think of the metal - jewelry. Or even the 'rating' for music awards - 'this record has gone platinum'. Did you know that Platinum is necessary for the human body as well?

Platinum can be found in a vaeriety of food items such as white cabbage, sunburst squash, potato, eggs, organ meat, hemp seeds, kelp and broccoli. Platinum is found primarily in blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), saliva, and urine.

Platinum is considered a "biologically compatible metal"; meaning it has been found to be non-toxic and stable. Beacause of this, it does not react with, or negatively affect body tissues. Interestingly enough, research has also shown platinum to inhibit the growth of certain cancerous cells. Many cancer therapy medications contain platinum for this very reason.

Platinum is also used for:

  • Bacterial, viral or fungal infections

  • Muscular, glandular or nerve functions

  • Chronif Fatigue

  • PMS

  • Brain Function

  • Tiredness throughout the day

  • Mental Alertness

  • Back pain

  • Neuralgia

Symptoms of Platinum Toxicity (too much):

  • Kidney disease

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Deafness

  • Cancer

  • Allergies to rubber, silicone and gels

  • Muscle Spasms

  • Intestinal and digestive complaints

How do you know if you have enough platinum in your body? Hair tissue mineral analysis tests can be a great starting point.
